Event Summary 2014
PSUK Cross Country Championships – Cheshire – Thursday 3 April 2014
This is the first PSUK Athletics event of the year that will hopefully kick-start you into taking part in the many other police fixtures during 2014. The event will take place at Harthill, Tattenhall, Cheshire.
The Ladies race will be over 4 miles (2 laps) commencing at 1. 00pm and the men’s race over 6 miles (3 laps) and will commence at 2-00pm.
The course is hilly crossing fields with a short section through woods on each lap and is an excellent spectator course.
PSUK Orienteering Championships – West Mercia – Sunday 27 April 2014
This event is incorporated within at an event Wyre Forrest, Bewdley, Worcestershire. It is a forest area with a good network of paths and tracks and provides fast running underfoot. There are some intricate areas of gorse and some slow run areas where careful navigation is required.
There are courses for male, female, veteran and novice runners. These range from circa 5k to 8k in distance. So if you fancy some 'cunning running' in some very picturesque Worcestershire countryside then get yourself entered!
PSUK Marathon Championships – Milton Keynes – Monday 5 May 2014
This is the first time the PSUK have held their marathon in Milton Keynes. This is a 26.2 mile city marathon with a difference. With 4,500 acres of woodlands, lakesides, parks and landscaped areas within the city boundary, Milton Keynes is the ideal venue for a Green Marathon.
The course is traffic free on closed roads and cycle paths or “redways” as they are known locally, the course is gently undulating with no significant incline providing real PB potential.
This will be a qualification event for the USPE Marathon event to be held in Austria October 2014.
PSUK ‘Sporting Super Stars’ – Hopton-on-Sea - Norfolk – Tuesday 6 to Thursday 8 May 2014
Are you fit enough to be the ‘UK’s Toughest Cop’? This is a relatively new official PSUK event that involves individuals competing in a series of disciplines. Each UK Police Force may enter at least one male and one female competitor and anyone eligible to compete in PSUK events may take part.
The events include - Sprinting - Indoor Rowing - Archery - Shooting – Ball Throw - Bleep Test - Gym Tests - Orienteering - Climbing Wall. Staged over two days, the competition culminates with a gala dinner, prize presentation and cabaret evening in conjunction with the annual PSUK Indoor Sports events.
British Police Fell Race – North Wales - Wednesday 14 May 2014
This year the event will take place over the Foel Fras range starting from Abergwyngregyn near Bangor. The 8-10 mile course will offer some excellent running terrain over these interesting, lesser known hills.
All competitors need to have mountain navigation experience and carry certain kit during the race. A post race meal will take place after the event.
PSUK Track & Field Championships – Metropolitan Police - Wednesday 11 June 2014
The event takes place at Uxbridge Stadium. There must be an event here to suit every athlete. The competition take place from 11am through to 5pm with presentation of medals throughout the day. The following track and field events will be contested:
Track - Men and Women - 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 5000 metres (Including male and female Veterans) Relay – Ladies 4 x 100 metres - Men’s Medley (800x200x200x400) Track - Men Only - 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, 3000m walk
Held on the same day as the Track & Field, teams of nine will battle it out in a series of different weight competitions held throughout the day. The PSUK are looking to encourage more force teams to take part. Athletes are asked to contact members of their respective force rugby teams to attract interest.
Cheviot 2000 Team Fell Race - Northumbria – Saturday 14 June 2014
The Cheviot 2000 Team Fell Race is an annual event open to serving members of the UK police, armed forces and other emergency services. It is organised by members of the Northumbria Police 'Chaos Club'.
The course is circular, of 23 miles distance, and takes in all mountain peaks over 2000 feet located in the Northumberland National Park, England, UK. Teams of three run together over some of England's lesser known but equally stunning fells.
Snowdonia 7 Team Fell Race - North Wales – Saturday 12 July 2014 (Date to be confirmed)
This event requires four members running together as a team, each member providing encouragement to one another over this gruelling 22 mile course that traverses around 8000 feet ascent over seven of the highest Snowdonia Mountains. This is not an official PSUK event but has always been popular among police runners.
PSUK 10 Mile Road Race Championships – Devon & Cornwall – Wednesday 10 September 2014
This event is always popular with PSUK runners. The details of the event have not been released but we are sure the hosts will provide us with and interesting course and excellent post race hospitality.
PSUK 5K and 10K Race Walking Championships – West Midlands – Wednesday 24 September 2014
This is a fairly flat tarmac course around Canon Hill Park, Edgbaston comprising 5K for ladies and 10k for men. More runners are taking to this ‘alternative’ athletic sport as a supplement to their annual sporting calendar.
An interesting and tasty buffet meal at the nearby ‘Tally Ho Club’ follows the race with presentation of prizes for individual and teams.
