10 Mile Road Race Championships 2018 10 Mile Road Running Championships Bangor, North Wales Wednesday 5 September 2018 The route will be primarily traffic free, fast and flat in a beautiful location close to Bangor. Accommodation and function will be at Bangor University. Provisional details as follows...
The Course The planned route utilises a local walking/
Sustrans cycling route called Lon Las Ogwen. Lon Las Ogwen is a wonderful route offering
views of the Snowdonia Mountains as it climbs south from the coast at Porth
Penrhyn. Following the valley of Afon Cegin, the trail climbs on old railway
cuttings through lovely broadleaf woodland to Tregarth and a turn around point
at Bethesda. The race will start in Porth Penrhyn, on
the edge of the Menai Straits and follows a virtually traffic free out and back
course. The out leg rises gently throughout its length, ensuring a fast second
half. During the event competitors will run
underneath viaducts, through old railway tunnels and across raging rivers. The ethos of the race is around inclusion
and we really want to encourage runners of all abilities. Without a need for
road closures we can facilitate extended cut off times if needed. Trail Link: https://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map/route/lon-las-ogwen The evening
venue Accommodation and
the evening function will be provided by Bangor University. A pre-meal drink
will be served in the Powis Hall (Neuadd Powis) before a 3 course meal in
Neuadd Pritchard Jones. Evening
entertainment is yet to be finalised but will hopefully be live music followed
by a disco. It’s a gorgeous
venue and the food is of a high standard. Accommodation will
be provided in university halls, modern single en-suite rooms. I will provide a further update as soon as possible. Thanks Owain Prif Arolygydd Gwynedd T/Chief Inspector Gwynedd Ffôn / Tel: 01407
