Course
Carsington Water is a
reservoir, around which is a 7.3 mile circular cycle/pedestrian path. There
is a large pay-and-display car park and a visitor centre with a café and
toilet facilities. The race HQ and start line will be at the coach park
situated at the top of the main visitor centre car park. The finish area
will be at the sailing club end of the reservoir dam wall, a short walk from
the main car park. It is not possible to organise a multi-lap race at the
site, therefore the race will consist of either;
1) 1 x full lap of the
reservoir in a clockwise direction, starting at the visitor centre car park
and finishing at the sailing club (approximately 7 miles).
The route is well
sign-posted and virtually impossible to get lost (famous last words!).
Although not traditional cross country terrain, the path around Carsington
is made up of loose and hard gravel and will no doubt be wet in places,
therefore trail running shoes are recommended. Road shoes may even suffice,
although runners must be advised that there are a number of sharp inclines
and declines so off-road shoes will be better.
All runners must wear
their force colours as per league rules.
Refreshments, food and a
trophy presentation for the Regional Championships will take place at a
venue yet to be confirmed (owing to the late change of venue). Details will
follow.
