About the League
The NPCCL was formed in July 1967 at a meeting chaired by the Chief Constable of Oldham, Lancashire Constabulary.

The
Northern Police Cross Country League has now ten fixtures starting in
late September through to March. The races are hosted by a different
police force and staged at venues within the respective north of
England force areas. The forces eligible to compete in the Northern
League are:-

Civil Nuclear Constabulary
Cumbria
Durham
GMP
Humberside
Lancashirehire
Eligible forces but not currently represented:-
BTP
Northumbria
The League secretary would be interested to re-kindle runners from these non-participating forces.

Mission Statement
"The aim of the
Northern Police Cross Country League
is to promote the ethos of team work
while improving the health, fitness and wellbeing
of police officers and police staff in the forces of the Northern Region,
and to provide participating forces with the vehicle to encourage and
promote participation of members in their own forces’ Cross Country
Championship"

concentrating on achieving maximum attendance at their own fixture, the
league as a whole will benefit"
Fixtures
The
races are generally held over interesting and varied cross county
terrain. between five and six miles for men and women. Each host
provides adequate changing facilities, showers and a hot meal following.
The
league is challenging and competitive and has produced some excellent,
talented cross country runners over the years. Notwithstanding this the
league provides and excellent opportunity for any standard of runner to
take part as there are no entry standards required.
The
races are held on a Wednesday afternoon starting at 1.30pm and give
those attending an opportunity at the very least to take part in a
mid-week event that forms the basis of good all-round winter training.
Entry Requirements
Competitors may be:-
Serving or retired police officers or police staff
Temporary retired police officers or police staff who are on a career break and
plan to rejoin their force
Members of the special constabulary, community volunteers
Other police employees under direct control of the force Chief Constable
Immediate family member of the above - Spouse/Partner/Siblings 16+
Entry
If you wish to participate in the League please contact your
Force representative who will liaise with you
over transport and directions to attend each fixture. There is no need to enter
each fixture and there is no individual entry fee. You simply turn up and run!
It could not be easier!
Entry Fee
The season entry fee for each police force is currently set at
£40. This is usually paid at the end of the season. Each police force may enter
as many runners as they wish in each of the set fixtures. The cost remains the
same throughout irrespective of how many take part!
The fee in the main covers the cost of the end of season prizes.
Cheques should be made payable to "LCSSC" and sent to the

Guest Runners
The
League is closed to other club runners or organisations. However guests
from local clubs or other service organisations like the fire or prison
service have sometimes competed by
special arrangement.
