Northern Police Cross Country League - 2024/2025 Season

Thank you to Dan Preston, Simon Fricke and North Yorkshire for hosting our first fixture yesterday at York Racecourse. Though numbers were low, everyone who attended had a great, enjoyable run.

We had fine, sunny weather and great conditions over a fast but testing course.

Thanks to Shaun Bott for hosting this great fixture! A very wet, muddy and exstremely slippery in places added to the overall challenge!

Great turn-out from many of our members wearing festive, Christmas attire with Laura Lawler and Anna Sykes winning the spot prizes!

Jack Pilkington and Rachel Darling Love were 1st male/female Northern League runners winning a nice bottle of Merlot!

Jack was 2nd overall! All credit to him as had he not been wearing a giant Christmas Pudding, he might have won!

He can maybe challenge the Cosforth runner again at Cannock!

The race was kindly supported by Lancon Stalwart, Mully, who attended with us today. This is the first time since his surgery and hopes to start running next season! Any Andy Brown and Jim O'Donnell also kindly assisted with marshalling.

A big thank you to Jack Pilkington and his team for organising an excellent fixture at Spud Wood yesterday.

A very muddy, testing, six-mile course provided everyone with some excellent running.

Great performances, particularly from Rachel Lloyd from Cheshire who was first home overall! A possible first for the League for a lady to win a fixture outright! This was her debut appearance in the League.

Port Marker Wins the spot prize for the best face plant!

Thank you to all the marshalls for their support. Much appreciated.

Great post-race curry at the Barn Owl rounded off the afternoon nicely!!

Results and Report - Fixture #3 - Rivington Woods - Lancashire

Halloween Special

A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported the third fixture at Rivington Woods yesterday.

From the feedback received, it seems everyone enjoyed the modified three-lap course. Some quite testing, muddy conditions made for an interesting 5.7 miles.

Rob Sparkes and Janine Fallon were first man and lady back winning a nice bottle of wine.

Some excellent performances from everyone including those in Halloween

costume!

Some fantastic costumes and well done to all who entered, but Skeleton, Laura Lawler won the 1st prize and Grim Reaper David Watkinson runner-up. Both winning a bottle of wine!

Everyone enjoyed the butternut squash soup in the Barn afterwards.

Fixture 4 -13 November 2024 - Cumbria

A big thank you to everyone who supported the Fixture at Dalemain.

What a fabulous afternoon and a great turn-out from many Forces across the League!

Special thanks to Phil Corris , Caroline Lambert and Jim O'Donnell for Marshall and time-keeping support.

The 5.3 mile course was pretty much as previous years. Conditions were perfect with some short, steep and testing climbs, but some great fast descents!

Fabulous scenery, complimented by Autumnal tints made for a great day out!

The race was started by Mark Webster, Chief Constable, Cleveland, who competed and ran a great race. Thank you to Mark for his support.

Fixture 5 - 27 November 2023 -South Yorkshire

A big thank you to Andy Lakeland and his team for staging the latest fixture in South Yorkshire yesterday. This was a combined Midlands League invitation event which provided a great field of over 50 runners.

The usual three-lap course with 7 x hills provided everyone with a real challenge, particularly as the conditions under foot were pretty muddy and slippery.

Rob Sparkes (Humberside) and Janine Fallon (Lancashire) did the Northern League proud, and were first male and female, winning a bottle of wine each.

Great performances from the RAF Team with the Midlands League taking the North v. Midlands 2024 title!

Thanks to South Yorkshire for providing the coffee, cakes and doughnuts and also the great changing facilities.

Thanks also to Graham Curtis and Jim O'Donnell for their timekeeping and marshal support.

The next fixture is in two weeks at Ellestree Park, Derbyshire. Details will be posted here next week.

Some great running from Rob Sparkes (Humberside Police) who finished first in 34.52. Jim Harlock (Vet 60) was first Guest Runner (City of Hull) in 2nd place overall.

First lady was Kirsty Drakeford from the Fire Service with Janine Fallon (Lancashire) runner-up.
