Police Sport UK Marathon Championships 2023 Sunday 15 October 2023 Incoporated in the York Marathon Race Report and Results The Yorkshire Marathon was this year’s host to the PSUK
Championship on Sunday the 15th October 2023. Organised by “Runforall” the marathon starts and finishes in
the beautiful city of York. As runners congregated for the start the temperature was
around 4 degrees, a tad chilly some may say, and climbed to around 10 degrees
whilst athletes were out of the course. There was a vibrant atmosphere at the
event village which was based around York University campus. A field of 6,500 athletes had entered with 82 of those athletes
entered for this year’s PSUK championship. A mass warm up was held at 0910
hours before the start at 0930 hours. As athletes embarked on their run, music played and
entertainment was scattered around the course. There were plenty of spectators’
spots and the occasional quiet spell of beautiful Yorkshire countryside for the
runners to absorb. As the course meandered around the city there were plenty of
opportunities to catch a glimpse of the competition around you. The first 3 men
were never far away from each other and provided each with the extra
competitive element to produce some excellent Pb’s. At the conclusion of the race there were some very tired runners.
Participants each had their own goal whether it was achieving a Pb; being part
of a team; or just enjoying the event and scenery. Despite the discomfort in
the legs there were lots of happy faces who were pleased to receive their
finishers medal and T-shirt. Well done to all that took part. The PSUK post presentation function took place at Derwent
College which was staggering distance from the finish line. As this is a
championship race all results are taken using gun time. The awards were presented by Grahm Heeley, PSUK Honorary
Member and member of the PSUK Athletic Section Committee. The male winner was Owen Grant [SM] from Gloucestershire in
2.31.08 and hot on his heels was Rob Grantham [MV50] from Cheshire in 2.32.53 closely
