Event Summary 2009
PSUK Cross Country Championships – Cumbria – Wednesday 11 March 2009
If you are reading this you have probably done it and got the ‘T’ Shirt! This is the first PSUK event of the year that has hopefully kick-started many of you into taking part in the many other police fixtures during 2009. So please read on and prepare to whet your appetite!!………
PSUK ‘Sporting Super Stars’ – Hopton-on-Sea - Norfolk – Tuesday 5 to Thursday 7 May 2009
Are you fit enough to be the ‘UK’s Toughest Cop’? This is a relatively new official PSUK event that involves individuals competing in a series of disciplines. Each UK Police Force may enter one male and one female competitor and anyone eligible to compete in PSUK events may take part. The events include - Golf - Sprinting - Indoor Rowing - Archery - Netball - Football - Bleep Test - Gym Tests - Orienteering - Climbing Wall. Staged over two days, the competition culminates with a gala dinner, prize presentation and cabaret evening in conjunction with the annual PSUK Indoor Games events.
PSUK Orienteering Championships – Atherstone - Warwickshire – Monday 18 May 2009
Are you good at map reading? This event offers a variety of courses ranging from 4 to 5 km for women and 5 to 8 km for the men. The event is staged over challenging and undulating open/woodland terrain. There is also a relatively easy 5K novice course where force members may run as pairs.
British Police Fell Race – Nr. Stokesley - Cleveland – Wednesday 27 May 2009
This year the event will take place over the Carlton Moor, Cold Moor, Wainstones and Drake Howe fells of Cleveland. The 10 mile course will offer some excellent running terrain over these interesting, lesser known Cleveland fells that form part of the ‘Coast to Coast’ Walk. All competitors need to have mountain navigation experience and carry certain kit during the race. A post race meal will take place in the Lords Stone Café where we understand beer costs £1 a pint!
Cheviot 2000 Team Fell Race – Wooler - Northumbria - Saturday 20 June 2009
Similar to the Snowdonia 7, this popular police event, established 20 years ago, involves three members running together as a team over this gruelling 23 mile course in the Northumbrian hills. A great team adventure over the lesser known hills of England.
PSUK Track & Field and Tug of War Championships – Doncaster - South Yorkshire - Wednesday 8 July 2009
There must be an event here to suit every athlete. The competition take place from 11am through to 5pm with presentation of medals throughout the day. The following track and field events will be contested:
Track - Men and Women - 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 5000 metres (Including male and female Veterans) Relay – Ladies 4 x 100 metres - Men’s Medley (800x200x200x400) Track - Men Only - 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, 3000m walk
Held on the same day as the Track & Field, teams of nine will battle it out in a series of different weight competitions held throughout the day. The PSUK are looking to encourage more force teams to take part. Runners are asked to contact members of their respective force rugby teams to attract interest.
Snowdonia 7 Team Fell Race - North Wales – Saturday 15 August 2009
Similar to the Cheviot 2000, this event requires four members running together as a team, each member providing encouragement to one another over this gruelling 22 mile course that traverses around 8000 feet ascent over seven of the highest Snowdonia Mountains.
PSUK 10 Mile Road Race Championships – Llandudno - North Wales – Wednesday 16 September 2009
This event is always popular with PSUK runners. This year the event starts in Llandudno and is a scenic but hilly out and back course over the Great Ormes Head. This won’t be a PB course but we are told by our Welsh hosts that it will be an unforgettable and enjoyable road running experience!
PSUK 5K and 10K Race Walking Championships – West Midlands – Wednesday 23 September 2009
This is a flat tarmac course around Canon Hill Park, Edgbaston comprising 5K for ladies and 10k for men. More runners are taking to this ‘alternative’ athletic sport as a supplement to their annual sporting calendar. A buffet meal at the nearby ‘Tally Ho Club’ follows the race with presentation of prizes for individual and teams.
PSUK Marathon Championships – Leicester – Sunday 11 October 2009
This is the first time the PSUK have held their marathon in Leicester. Incorporated within the ‘Leicester City Marathon’ this relatively flat, one-lap course is well organised and marshalled and covers much scenic and rural areas in and around the city. The event is also a qualifying race for the USPE event held in Prague in May 2010.
